I hope there is not an electrical short. Have a Gateway laptop. Warranty died 2 weeks ago.

It probably needs repair. You should consult the shop where you bought it.

This is often caused by a pc virus. Hopefully you have an up-to-date anti-virus program. If so, boot into "Safe Mode", and then run your anti-virus program for a complete scan of the hard drive. Another thing you might try is to use the Device Manager within the Hardware within the Properties section of "My Computer" to uninstall the drive....then reboot and Windows should find the drive as "New Hardware" and re-install the correct driver for it.
