Most ethernet ports have two lights. One is a link light and will always be lit when it's connected. The other is an activity light that will flash when there is any traffic on it.

If you're not surfing the net, there shouldn't be much activity on your connection. If you have continuous heavy traffic, most likely you have either spyware or a virus on your machine. Install and use antivirus and antispyware software and keep it up to date.

If you're using any peer-to-peer software, remove it from your machine. That crap is always active and will eat up your bandwidth like any virus or spyware will.

If you have a wireless router, even if you're not using wireless right now, enable security on the wireless to keep anyone else from using your internet connection.

If your ISP limits you to 6 GB of traffic, consider a different ISP or get an unlimited account.

we told you what to do last time, check virus/spyware and download a firewall such as Zone Alarm's to monitor the traffic.
