There are smiles that just touch the mouth the true smiles include the eyes. It is more than a positive outlook. It is an active participation in life. To smile and become one with life.

Just try to maintain the eye awareness, and consciously relax the mind... instantly the eye relaxation can be felt... and when the mind is in joy, cheer or humour, there is a twinkle in the eye that can be seen even by others.
A few fortunate people maintain this relaxed mind attitude and their eyes are always soft/gentle looking...
Not necessarily a positive outlook... good for physical health. Too much of casualness if it creeps in, the capability to get focused on something is reduced.

Look in a mirror, with no expression, now smile, not only with your lips, but your eyes. You can feel and see the difference clearly. So can others - smiling eyes are the difference between a merely polite expression, and a genuine expression of goodwill. It can have great impact on others, so used to "dead-pans". But with practice, it can be faked quite convincingly, too, when you can really feel the difference.

Bright Side of Life
By Eric Idle

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

It doesn't just mean sight but I think it encompases all the senses. It is about sensing the world around you as if you can sense the world through a smile. This makes me think of seeing the world through the eyes of a happy child.

It means dont look at life in a negative way. You should see life being optimistic. Therefore look at life with smiling eyes instead of dreary ones.
