Why do people smoke weed and do drugs??

2006-10-08 16:15:57 · update #1

Could that be a good reason why he doesn't feel bothered by the TV screens that are scrolling very frequently?? I saw him changing channels often and the screens are still scrolling. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it. Could the reason be because he is on drugs??

Obviously, everyone has answered your original question adequately, stoned = high on drugs, mostly marijuana, and smoked a fatty = inhaled a big fat joint or marijuana cigarette, but as to your second question, about why people do drugs, everyone's answers are much too simplistic. There are almost no cultures on the entire face of the earth that did not discover some way to alter human consciousness. Whether it was creating some sort of alcohol, eating psychoactive mushrooms or cacti, smoking marijuana or tobacco (nicotine is a mild narcotic) people all over the earth from prehistory forward have ingested substances that alter our states of mind. Why? Mostly because it feels nice. To dismiss everyone everywhere at all times in history as a loser is to do a disservice to the truth. The fact is that the reasons for doing drugs are as varied as the number of humans that do them. Social drinking (or smoking) is pleasant when done in moderation, making everyone more convivial and at ease with one another. The psychotropic drugs like the mushrooms or peyote have long had a place in various religious or spiritual rituals. Opiates have been used as pain relievers for millennia. And beyond the pain relief they provide, it can not be denied that at first they make the user feel very very good. However, the abuse of narcotics for reasons of escapism can not be downplayed or swept under the rug. It is a serious problem. But to lump everything together and "just say no!" is also problematic. There were times in our history, recent history, when opiates were available over the counter. And yet the entire country didn't descend into a slavering horde of hopeless addicts. As in all aspects of life, moderation is the key, and avoiding sweeping generalizations a step on the road to wisdom.

"Stoned" can mean someone who is high from many different drugs, but it is usually designated for marijuana.

"Smoked a fatty" pertains only to smoking a "fat" marijuana cigarette or "joint".
