There were two works of literature referenced in this book - the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", by Robert Frost, and Gone With The Wind, by Margaret Mitchell. Neither was given to him by Darry - the poem was one he studied in school and the book was purchased by Johnny when he went to get supplies.
