i dont undersatnd what the authors main idea is... what exactly is his thesis? what is he trying to prove/

I read the book and loved it. The point he's trying to prove? I think it's that he overcame his struggle no matter what really happened. Did all that stuff happen? Or was it in his head? What really matters was he had a way to cope and he made it out alive.

I just finished reading that. It is a bit confusing. I thought in the end that he was trying to say that some people can't accept the truth so it is easier to believe that a fantastical tale.
I think that the story as we were originally told is false, and it did happen the way he said to the japanese men the second time. I think Pi created this story because the reality of his situation was too much to handle. But I could be compleltely wrong on that.
