I'm self publishing a book (available Nov. 2006) of over 300 scriptures, adages and old sayings that my mom had for just about every occasion in life. Growing up, I didn't always understand what she meant by them and sometimes did not want to hear them. However, in my late teens I began to see the value and have used them through out my adult life...and continue to use them to guide me around some of the pit falls in life.

Do you have a similar experience with the passing down of wisdom and knowledge through the spoken word?

How have you added on to the wisdom of your parents or others?

My Grandmother used to say"you made your bed,now lay in it" It took me a long time to understand that one. another one I will always use is....."Life is largely what you make out of it ,if you don't like it ,then it's up to you change it"
I made that one up myself , it is a good one and you are welcome to use it. Another one is,I always told my daughter when she was a teenager..............Never allow yourself to be put in a compromising position where you have no way out" . Those are the ones I remember, that made my decisions easier to make. Thanks for asking. squirlyShirley1.

you in simple terms blew up my irony meter.i'm unable to get a replace till Tuesday.maybe Celes and Witchy will save me interior the loop.Or that Aggie fellow,he's sharp. First show your assertion that it is of Christian origins.maybe Christians co-opted this adage in simple terms like they did the golden rule that's lots older than Abraham and the cults and sects trailing in his wake.
