Both are nice.
If I was alone, I'd pick the boardwalk for safety, otherwise, on the beach. I love the feel of the sand when I'm walking in it.

we love to walk on the beach at night especially in waikiki beach. go to the other side of the street to get something to drink and watch the sunset. sometimes, we love to walk along side the beach in catalina, too..
but if we are in venice, santa monica or redondo beach, we enjoy the boardwalk especially when we try to buy some seafood, watch the show, the arcade and the boats....

no like on the beach,to beable to take off your shoes and step into the cool sand leaving your small feet prints behind that say i was here,letting the soft moonlight guide you on the shore,to be alone or with a good friend to beable to think talk luaghand do things that maybe in a crowded boardwalk you wouldnt be able to do

Walking on the beach at night. I get enough of the city streets on a daily basis.
