It started out as a sore throat, then moved to congestion, now it's a lingering cough. It hasn't been major, no real fever though I have felt tired a lot. I *think* it has been getting better the last few days, but like I said its been over two weeks. I don't want to have to pay for a doctor's visit if I don't have to but is this abnormal?

Typical respiratory illness lasts 1-2 weeks and should be improving at the end of 2 weeks. Current recommendations for antibiotics for the cough and sinus"crud" are no antibiotics unless afever over 102 or NOmimprovement after 2 weeks. My last infection was better after 2 weeks but took 3 1/2 weeks to resolve completely.

How is acute bronchitis treated?

Most cases of acute bronchitis will go away on their own after a few days or a week. It's a good idea to get plenty of rest, drink lots of noncaffeinated fluids (for example, water and fruit juices) and increase the humidity in your environment.

Because acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses, antibiotics (medicines that kill bacteria) usually do not help. Even if you cough up mucus that is colored or thick, antibiotics probably won’t help you get better any faster.

If you smoke, you should cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke, or stop smoking altogether. This will help your bronchial tree heal faster.

For some people with acute bronchitis, doctors prescribe medicines that are usually used to treat asthma. These medicines can help open the bronchial tubes and clear out mucus. They are usually given with an inhaler. An inhaler sprays the medicine right into the bronchial tree. Your doctor will decide if this treatment is right for you.

Its pretty normal when you dont take a bunch of meds the doc will prescribe and you have to spend all your money on. My less expensive way to get rid of the cough is to mix 3 tablespoons of honey with 1 teaspoon of thyme mix together then take one tablespoon of the honey mixture every 6-8 hours. Breaks up the phleghm and stops the cough instantly plus its all natural so you dont have to worry about long term effects to your body. You most likely had a head cold with sinus drainage into your lungs (post nasal drip) which made your throat sore. Then you end up with tight congestion in your lungs (bronchitis) Your tired cuz your body is fighting it off and with the congestion you get less oxygen thus making you weak and tired.

Your signs sound very similar to what i have been going via. I used to be unwell for approximately per week in a part immediately. My signs have been a sore throat which stepped forward to a cough and a stuffy nostril. It acquired to the factor that it grew to be problematic to respire. None of the over-the-counter meds have been operating and on the whole whilst i've a bloodless they're going to. By the moment week i ultimately went to the medical professional. My bloodless had morphed into Bronchitis. The subsequent step after bronchitis used to be going to be pneumonia. You will have bronchitis or it will have already all started to be pneumonia. I desire that kinda is helping. Good good fortune

If you havent had a fever, I wouldnt go to a doc. I read recently when I was sick that you can feel crummy for up to a month. Hang in there, keep eating and drinking, itll get better. Start taking a vitamen with each meal, and maybe itll begin to go away. Id get on some vitamen C too.

Ok Hon, this is been going on for to long - it can turn into Bronchitis or Pneumonia or it can weaken your heart if UNTREATED, ok. I don't want to scare you BUT every cold that goes on for more then 10 days with no signs of getting better needs to be seen by a Doc - so go and check it out. You can end up way worse so spend that money and do yourself a favor.

This happens a lot to smokers, someone that is run-down, or someone that has allergies. Since you are getting better, you should get over this quickly now. But if you relapse, go to the doctor!

your health is worth more than the money it would cost to see a doctor, try an urgent care if you have one in your area if that would be less expensive, but do not put it off, get yourself seen to get yourself right!
