You don't need anyone special to look at it nor clean it up. I freaked out when I saw some blackish mold creeping in near a crack in the grout. I spent some time doing research online before I called anyone.

What I found out was that every single home in the world has mold and it never harms anyone. Those who have mold specific allergies are those who suffer. It doesn't cause asthma in kids or adults. It doesn't effect anyone at all that doesn't have the allergy.

We called our county housing authority for more info on codes and such and they said the same thing, no special clean ups or contractors for removal necessary. Our contractor ripped out the tub and sink and there was a good amount of mold back there. he cleaned it with soap and water scrubbing and then did a bleach rinse and called it good.

So do yourself a favor and do some research before you spend a bundle needlessly.

Croochie is right... big buck is just the beginning....

its a racket all the way along, including your house goes on an insurance list & you must notify anyone buying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( like a wrecked/flooded car does!)

calm down...

find the water source, pipe, roof, humidity, sidewall leak... ( if a stucco house in the south, you may want to turn on gas jet on one side & leave candle burning on other side & go to disney world! , but we'll talk about that later )..etc...
fix leak, hang a temp plastic curtain over affected room/s remove & bag wet & moldy material - !!!!! bag it there!!!
spray every thing that can take it w/ 10% clorox solution let dry, effect repairs
run a/c to keep house dry, change your pleated paper a/c filter immediatly & after 1 week , run central fan a lot - keep a/c @ 73 - 74
professionally clean carpets
don't make insiurance claim unless its real big, & if so, do the removal & spray part 3 days b-4 the adjuster comes out - read your policy before you talk to your agent, they are bound by rules to report stuff like that!

Yahoo directory for your area, put mold and you will get plenty of phone numbers. But remember not all mold is black mold. And your home owners insurance won't cover mold.

You can contact a home inspector or an airduct cleaner, but expect to pay big $$$. For whatever reason, when people hear black mold they start seeing dollar signs. It's definitely worth getting two opinions, if you can afford it.

look in the book under home renovations, repairs etc. Look for a mold remediator. dont let just anybody remove it if you have it. if you do, check with your insurance company to see if it is covered. find out what the cause is. was there a resent repair with in the last year.
