and you might be interested in Testimony of an Irish Slave Girl (not all slaves were black),
and though it's not an actual novel, read The Autobiography of Malcolm X.

I read a book called The Memorial it was a great book about a young black girl growing up past slavery and met a black jazz singer who taught her how to get past the hard times and make good memories in bad times. I dont know the Author I read it 8 years ago but it was very good.

black like me,its a fascinating true story about a white man who takes drugs to pigment his skin and essentially become black to discover racism from the black perspective but as a white guy...understand its a deep social commentary...the pigment drugs actually killed him so he gave the ultimate sacrifice for his social experiment,its also a rather damning essay on those whites that say there not racist but actually are...and yes im white,lol
