That is when they are the most fun to wear. Some of my most favorite clothes are the ones that look like that.

I do not know which is harder to believe: that you asked this question or that you actually bought a new item made to look old.
You are an unfortunate victim of fashion. The fashion industry has duped you into paying extra money for things meant to look worn, and the items that I have seen in store like this are really ugly. The tragedy, of course, is your wondering whether a hole, or stain of your own making is as "cool" as a professionally made miscue. Are you frightened that one of your friends will see two adjacent holes and publicly denounce you because only one can be determined to be "intentional"?
Have you ever wondered WHO gets to initiate fashion trends? Have you ever considered that it might even be YOU? I'll bet that you haven't, that you merely see what everyone else is doing, and like a lemming leaping into the sea, you go with the flow. Set your own style! wear matching brassiers around your knees!! Sport a Mohican that goes from ear to ear rather than from brow to nape of the neck! Fashion a fedora from starched old panties!
Here are three things little old me did that were quickly usurped into "fashion statements": Chin whiskers (or the so-called 'soul patch') rather than a goutee, moustache, or beard; dark over-the-calf socks with shorts in warm weather (my favorite-I used to get ridiculed for it, and then every johnny-come-lately seemed to think it was the coolest); and sharkskin suits with shirt completely buttoned and no tie (men might wear a suit with no tie before me, but would leave the top unbuttoned-very Miami Vice and very uncool). So take your distressed clothes and further distress them!! Or, better yet take them back to the mall and say "I just bought this, and look, it's got a hole in it!!"
