This is a very good question. There should be tougher laws on gun ownership, and increase the price of rifles by 200%.Access to weapons should be restricted to federal office, and US govt must tighten security systems in sschools, scanning device and policeguards. And the cause of shooting is probably insanity/mental disturbance but they should be punished heavily to redeem their actions.

A lot of hidden aggression. Difficulties to discuss things openly because of numerous "politically correct" considerations. A society basically merciless towards the weak ones. A society which believes in using force to "teach them right". So, it seems some people just snap out.

Easy to obtain guns for a start, and the media, movies, video games and music that teach our children that the way to get revenge is to kill. Morals are not being taught in the home so kids don't experience remorse. I teach Jr. High and even the fights in the hall frighten me with the level of violence. If we teachers didn't break them up, I think these kids would kill each other right there. And for the most stupid reasons. In today's society of kids, retaliation is the only way they know to deal with their problems. Of course a majority of the kids are good, but the bad ones.....SCARY

Too much freedom and guns are too easy to get and possess. Owning guns are not against the law too in the U.S., so it's easy for people to just get a gun and shoot. Many students probably don't know how to think either and are not sensible enough...

Bravo to theliberaloneforyou for his unwarranted personal attack against a person's objective question, and to his simplistic answer which certainly puts him into the category of genius.

I don't know all the causes, they likely vary, and, obviously, you can't have a shooting without weapons or items that shoot, so the existence of guns is relevant.

weaker kids getting tormented by bullies - the staff won't correct the problem - kids are forced to be in school with no escape.
Add that to no discipline at home or school and that's what happens.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. The reason this is happening in the schools is that we have taken the Bible out of schools. Everyone lives for their own personal gratification. No loves thy neighbour.

Desensitization of death and hurting others.

Kids are disconnected from reality. They're spending more time in fantasy.
