I have a woman who I have been very good friends with for a while. She is a beloved mentor. Lately her son has been hounding me about getting together, but I don't want to because he lies and is a drug user. I'm also not attracted to him and he seems to want to go out. She is a typical mother, incredibly defensive and in love with her son, so I worry about offending her. I don't want to lose her friendship, but I really don't want to hang out with him. If I don't, though, I'm afraid of what he might lie to her about me. She thinks he's God's gift, but he has her fooled. What should I do?

Well either you could tell her and her not believe you or he would lie his way out of it. Then you have just telling her you are not interested in him, and that your truley sorry. Or you could just drop the whole thing and just avoid all of it. Try telling him you are not interested in him. Try and talk to him about it.

Just tell her son the truth that you are not in for him. Or better still you tell him that you are attached. By doing this you still keep your friendship alive.

Use the wonderful old line - I value you as a friend and don't want to ruin it by going out with you.
