the sheer depth of time that it represents for me kept returning to mind. its either that which is in the first sentence or the last sentence. See if you can find anything else reading that whole things a bit tedious

Really just read the paper to see what each paragraph is about. They should each somehow be related to the thesis in the intro. Then also in the conclusion, there should be a similar statement to the thesis.
