they weren't bought out by anyone. they now develop software for multiple platforms.

It went downhill with Sega Saturn. Playstation 1 was by far the better console. The Sega Dreamcast never really took off either so they stopped making consoles, leaving Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to play in that field. Sega still exist but concentrate on making games for consoles, for example a new Sonic the Hedgehog game is in the works for the Playstation 3. Also they still make arcade games.

Sega called it quits about a year or so ago. I guess they couldn't compete with Sony and Microsoft. I believe they are still making games. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

besides the fact that they make games for other systems now, they still have the dreamcast in japan, and made games there much later than they did here

Newer video game equipment took its place..newer technology....better looking graphics

they are still around.
but they have given up on the console wars and have focused their energies on games and other developments
