Why are people generally incredibly rude and selfish in public?

Question

I went out with a few friends today, and I all but got mowed down at a buffet by a family who acted like this was their last meal on Earth, and this was the only joint serving it. The mother cut me in line, twice...didn't say excuse me, and her daughter (about 8-9) was just as rude following suit. I just stood back and let tem go because to me it was not even that serious. The place had enough food to feed an Army. They saw I had my baby with me in her pack too, you think they'd have some respect, but they kept brushing up against her and smooshing her little feet and legs with no regard or apologies.

Why are people this way? I am always polite in public. I help old people in the motorized carts at the store reach items up high or down low. I open doors for anyone behind me. I let the elderly go before me in any line, wherever I am unless I am really pressed for time. I go out of my way to help pregnant ladies if they are getting heavy items.

What the hell is wrong with people?

People these days have no respect for anyone! They are selfish and rude and only care for themselves. Well, that is most people.

So many children are not being raised by their parents, but in institutions. Their parents are so detached from them and so clueless about them, they don't know how to train them, even if they were inclined to.

This is not the worst by any means, but I remember when a boy cut in line in front of my kids and I at a library summer reading sign-up. I said to the father, "I'm sorry, you're son cut in line, but we were here first." And the father said, "SO? Go ahead Jimmy, keep filling that out."

A nation with a substantial portion of sociopaths. It's quite distressing, really.

I do see a lot of kindness wherever I go, too. And when people are grumpy or cold, not rude, I find a smile really helps a lot of the times. And sometimes, they might be grieving, or in pain, or confused, or stresed. So try to always turn the other cheek and not be offended. It could hardly be personal, right?

Sometimes I feel people come down from another planet because of their rudeness. I her what you are saying. I could tell you stories that I have personally experienced. Always remember to never change your perspective on life. I have always been a firm believer in treating others the way you would want to be treated. Don't change and maybe someday a little niceness in you will rub off on the rude aliens!

Well...to look at it objectively...maybe they were just being rude. No reason for it. Its just how they were acting. On the other hand, maybe you were "poking" around with your baby by your side. A lot of people do not want to wait around for the "poky" people. And please do not take offense. I wasn't there. I do not know what happened from both angles.

People are just being raised like fat pigs. I mean if they saw you had a baby in your hands then, there is seriously something wrong with them. You did the right thing by treating people how you would like to be treated!

you know people are rude anymore they think someone owes them something ,and I am like you.this man flipped me and my son off in traffic the other day ,and I said you know what I'm following him and crazy me did ,he pulled over at a gas station I walked right up to him and said how stupid to flip a woman off at your age about 55 i guess .he tried to say he didn't do it I said buddy I followed you as soon as you did it and let me tell yeah you looked so stupid ,I walked off got in my car and left and Yes it felt good ,Lil lol Had enough
