For me, I love what i do, it's my passion. It's always easier to get motivated when you are passionate about it. Their are many motivations to work, ie. Money, Social, Responsibility, Paying Bills, Progressing in life, Learning, Being Challenged and i'm sure many more good motivators. However, if you believe in what you do and you believe you were meant to do it, that is the ultimate motivator.

I'm sure most people would agree that bills having to be paid is the main motivation for working. Along with gaining experience, having spending money, and having something to do.

Bottomline is money. However, if we were to keep money aside, it is the satisfaction that what you are doing is getting appreciated. I quit my high paying job to join another company where I was being appreciated much more. I guess it is an age thing. When I was younger (20s), it was mainly the money. In my 30s, I am looking for appreciation and recognition.

From what I can see, it is going to bend towards defeating onself and challenging oneself in 40s because I will have achieved money, appreciation and recognition.

Appreciation can be in the form of salary, awards, laurels, recognition etc. It is an age thing.
