There are hundreds of old wives tales about what things you can do to start labor early... Everything from drinking four cups of Red Raspberry tea every day, to long, hard bumpy rides on whatever vehicle of your choice. There's drinking a bottle of Caster Oil ( which is a terrible idea because it can lead to nausea, diarrhea, and dehydration); Breast/Nipple stimulation (which they say can cause uterine contractions by causing the release of oxytocin); or eating spicy foods... There's hundreds...

BUT the best advice that doctors will give you though is the following:

Walk, walk, and walk some more: Don't exhaust yourself, but a good walk every day helps your body get ready for labor even if it doesn't put you into labor.

Activity: It's fitting to say that along with climbing or walking, any kind of activity may kick start labor. Scrubbing the floor has long been a cited method of going into labor. There are stories of an afternoon spent gardening leading to a joyous birth. You can try cleaning, gardening, dancing, yoga – anything. Just don't wear yourself out. Make it part of your daily routine in late pregnancy.

Squatting: One of the reasons scrubbing floors and gardening may be infamous for inducing labor is because they require squatting or being on all fours – positions that help open the pelvis and encourage baby to engage. Squatting throughout pregnancy is a great idea anyways, because it helps your baby to move into the right position.

Have sex: This is a classic. And it can work. There's evidence to show it helps ripen your cervix even if it doesn't kick start labor. Stay lying down for a little while after sex. Semen has natural prostaglandins that will coat your cervix.

Bringing on labour is easier said then done, as its very unpredictable and bub will come when ready, but there are a few things you can do to hopefully make the waiting not as long, but some women can try every old wives tale and still nothing so don't get your hopes up as it might not work.

Sex is good as long as your waters haven't broken as it softens up the cervix, the gel they use to induce labour is artificial seaman,

Walking, lots of walking up and down stairs or even doing say 10 squats every couple of hours could help as the gravity helps bring baby down,

Some women say Castor oil, I personally used this and all it did for me was made me sick and now i have heard it can be dangerous so I don't recommend it,

rubbing lavender oil into your belly as well as bathing in it can sometimes help.

I cant think of anything else right now but there are plenty of different things you can try just be gentle.

The more active you are the sooner baby will come.

Hope it all happens soon. Good luck

There are several things that people will tell you will work. However, I have had 4 children and all were born past their due dates, #1 9 days past, #2 11 days late, #3 5 days late, and #4 7 days late. I walked miles, had lots of sex, drove down bumpy roads, washed floors on my hands and knees, and ate spicy food. All I got was sore feet, a happy husband, a dirty car, clean floors, and heartburn. None of those things made my labor start any quicker. You can try them for yourself and see if you have better success.

with both of my kids, I went and ate Chinese food, then I walked the mall for a couple of hours, and then went home, and had sex...by the next morning I was in active labor both times.

I tried all of the above and nothing worked until I got my membranes stripped when my daughter was 5 days overdue. That's what did it. My water broke that night and 5 hours later my daughter arrived.
