I would try to avoid washing it all together. Maybe hand wash it in cold water and hang drying it will be OK if you must wash it.

I'm sure it will be fine, provided you don't bleach the shirt. Sharpies are very permanent. If you are really concerned, though, just scribble in sharpie on an old shirt similar to the signed one and wash/dry it a couple of times to test it. If it lasts, then you know your special shirt should be fine.

using the idea from a previous poster to write on a "subject" piece
of material,do that, but before washing it first, run it through the dryer first, that will set the colorant in the pen to the fabric. do it by itself as well as the garment you want to retain the autograph. then have it wrapped so that no air will get to it , assuming that you want to keep the garment and the autograph intact.

Take a similar shirt and write on it with a sharpie and try washing that first - hand wash, cold water, mild soap or baby soap

It will fade anytime it comes in contact with water. You might try to Scotch Guard around the autograph. This will make it water resistant but not water proof.

Have it done over in embroidery although it wouldn't be the same thing but it won't wash out.
