In any given place, it occurs most often on june 21. but because we have arbitrarily drawn time zones and international date line, and because the earth revolves around the earth once in about 365 1/4 days, the solstice date varies one or two days either direction. Think about how leap year would make the date of the solstice arbitrarily move to a later date. That's what happens when you combine nature with man's artifices.

The summer solstice occurs on the day where the amount of sunlight is the longest. It's not always on the 21st of June.

It is always on or within one day of June 21. The reason that it varies depends on where the earth is in its four-year cycle of leap years. Our years are actually about 365 1/4 days long, which accounts for the difference
