I know I need the router, but do I need certain software or anything, or just the router?

Just the software that comes with your wireless router for your house and the software with your wireless card in your laptop. Later on you might want to try netstumbler or something similar if you want to troubleshoot or discover other wireless networks. Be careful though, don't assume that any wireless network you find open is free to use just because it isn't locked down. You can get into trouble piggy backing on someone else's internet.

Just have to have a wireless router to send and receive signals to the laptop. The router need to have a high speed Internet connection.

as long as you have the wirless router and the corresponding wirless card, it should be a breeze. just follow the instructions in the router manuals and do the necessary settings then you will be up and running

you need to check if your laptop comes with wireless card, if not you will have to buy 1, then install the driver for it.

if your laptop recognize your card, then u r ready to go. Your xp will configure it, and search for available connection. You may need to subscribe to sattlelight connection if you travel a lot.

Windows, or Tiger OS for macs is all you need. The windows has to be fairly recent though.
