A theme is how it plays out (what does the story mean?)

A moral is how it ends up (what have we learned from this story?).

"a theme is a broad idea in a story, or a message conveyed by a work"

"moral is a message conveyed or a lesson to be learned from a story or event"

These seem very similar to me. I don't think there is much of a difference, although typically a theme is implied - it is not specifically stated. A moral is often clearly stated (not always); usually in the conclusion. Just my opinion.
