For instance, if the wolf is taken first, the goat will eat the cabbage if left alone. I would appreciate your thoughts! Thanks.

Throw the cabbage cross, Then take both the animals throats and carry them at once. At the end, be very careful not to fall getting off of the boat with no hands, then you'll be in the same state you were when on the beginning side of the river. If you leave either animal on the side alone, it can potentially run away. This is clearly the only want to effectively get all three cross in such a situation with such limited resources.

Take the goat first, then the next does not matter, but for the sake of this answer I will say the wolf. When you get to the other side bring the goat back with you. Leave the goat on the original shore and take the cabbage across. Finally go back for the goat.

You should take a new approach to this old riddle.
Tie the cabbage with the tail of the goat and have a laugh watching the goat chase its tail while taking the wolf across.
Go back, take the goat and get it across.
Tie the goat to the tail of the wolf and enjoy the show on your way to take the cabbage to the other side.

First, take the goat with u on the other side.

Then, come back and take the wolf to the other side and while coming back take the goat with u, again.

Then, leave the goat here, and take the head of cabbage with you the other side to the wolf.

Then, come back to get the goat.

How could anyone surpass steven? I'd intended the same, only put a bit differently--like--if the goat ate the cabbage, & the wolf ate the goat. Glad steven got two thumbs up--one of them is mine!

Take the goat across to the other side, go back alone to the first side, take the cabbage to the other side, take the goat back to the first side, take the wolf to the other side, go back alone to the first side, and then take the goat to the other side.

Now you only have to keep them all from eating each other as you travel.
