It is a lighter green with feathery needles and the bark is split and prickly. It's about 4 yrs.old and 5 ft. tall. I did not plant it , it grew on its own. I found two more growing about 1 inch tall. How big will it get?

To my opinion these are good sites to go and identify your tree

There are many other sites on the net that offer large lists of plant descriptions including pictures to help you with identification. However, for uncommon or difficult to identify plants there is no guaranty that you will find what you are looking for and you could be looking for a while. Also don't forget your local nursery. They usually, can help.

I'm not certain without seeing a picture, but it sounds like what you are describing is a redwood tree.
