I am a service member serving in Iraq. Let's start by addressing the issue of war. In WWI 9 soldiers were killed for every one civilian. That ratio in Iraq is currently 1 soldier for every 11 civilians. We are not at war. We are not killing these people. 26,000 Iraqi civilians died between the dates of March 2003 and October 2005. That is the report released by Congress. These people have died due to Insurgent Activity. You Can Not hand a peoples democracy when all they have ever experienced is tyranny and expect everything to run smoothly. All the Iraqi people see is what they think they should have. They never had to fight to get what we are handing them and therefore see no reason to reconcile and make it work. We can continue to give, but it will never be enough. The Iraqi people need to be forced to stand on their own two feet, and our presence in Iraq is not aiding them with this.

this is a diverse conflict now. Years of oppression have unleashed an endless cycle of retribution. we are very close to to civil conflict and there remains a want of the contributors to kill one yet another. Untill the contributors have had sufficient of the killing, there is only not peace and the conflict isn't winnable (and American infantrymen would be caught in the midsection).

It's never ending like Vietnam Nam. The only way we would win would be to bomb them and that isn't truly winning. We would just lose more in the end.
