Croats, Serbs and Bosnians aside... what I really want to know was basically, was it a Christian/Muslim war and if so, who copped the biggest walloping?
An overly simplistic question, I know but I just need to understand the situation from a Croatian Orthodox Catholic's viewpoint...and why my muslim boyfriend would not be welcome at their daughter's wedding...? (he's not even from that part of the world). Are we talking basic bigotry here or is it overflow from the war?
..I didn't read the papers/ watch the news much during the 90's due to being a self absorbed teenager.

What happened was the Croatians wanted independence from Yugoslavia, while the Serbians wanted to keep Yugoslavia together, they did not want a greater Serbia as most people think, they wanted to keep the country of Yugoslavia together. Where I'm from there are alot of Slavs, back when I was younger everyone was together Croatians and Serbians. After the war it all changed. Friends I had since childhood wouldn't speak to me any longer because of my Serbian last name. Anyways there was alot of wrongs committed on both sides and this whole hate for one another needs to end.

Well, it wasn't a Christian/Muslim war, the reason for this war was quite different...Serbs wanted to obtain obsolete Yugoslavia and other nationalities wanted independence, they wanted to move forward.
I've got lot of friends in Croatia and from my experience Croatians are quite tolerant to other cultures and religions, more then in other countries.

Some people got mad and grabbed some guns and took up arms against other people. Then other people came in with even bigger guns and then Bill Clinton got involed somehow and then it all worked out and theres no more yugoslavia!

If it was Croatians that did not allow your boyfriend to a wedding, from my experience Croatians just like their own.
