Can you tell me the factors that make it expensive also?

It depends on where you live now. The cost of living ratio in Chicago is relatively low compared to other major cities.
Your best bet is to figure out how much you would be making and compare it to the rent. This will give you an idea of the cost of living ratio. Take into consideration your living style. Do you like going out to nice restaurants or would you prefer to eat in? Nightclubs and bars or coffee shops? Designer clothes or basic necessities? Depending on how you want to live you can live anywhere.
