I hate it because its stressful and it reminds me of my mom (she died) and that makes me sad. Plus it means I have to buy my dad a present even if I really don't want to.

You have to look at the good things rather than the bad. Christmas is only stressful if you make it that way. My mom died a week before christmas and actually that changed me from a bah humbug to just taing the less stress approach. Concentrate on enjoying and spending quality time with family and friends, eating good food and spend less time and energy on trying for that "perfect" holiday

I do not hate Christmas. What I do hate is the commercialism and no one knows what the real meaning of Christmas is. The real meaning is that it is the day Jesus was born and that is what we are celebrating. Not how many presents we get or buy and what they cost. I love Christmas trees and snow and going to mass, I wouldn't care if I even got any Christmas gifts.

I'm sure your mom would not want you to be sad at Christmas .Don't buy your Dad a present if you don't want to. It sounds like you 2 may just need to talk and be open with one another.

Christmas isn't about Christmas anymore. It's a mad dash to the stores and a gimme, gimme, greed fest with the extended family.

I admit that Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer makes me laugh everytime.

And I hate being told to be merry and jolly as I get elbowed and jostled with every other oxygen-breather on this planet as the stores hawk merchandise and I'm made to feel guilty because I didn;t get Aunt Martha anything and I haven't seen Aunt Martha since Gerald Ford was in office.

And if I hear one more version of "Rudolph the red-Nosed Reindeer", I will being doing a remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night!

I hate how it's supposed to be Jesus' birthday (notice I said "supposed to be", because it's not really his birthday), but it's become more of a commercial, money-making holiday than a celebration of him (like, what does santa claus have to do with Jesus?). It's also "supposed" to be about giving, but more people worry about what they're going to get than give. It's a very selfish holiday, and I would rather someone give me something from their heart rather than give me something because it's a holiday and they feel they have to. AND ......by the time people finish paying for what they gave this christmas, the next christmas rolls around and their still in debt from the last one. LOL

don't let it stress you out...i'm sure (guessing?) your mom wouldn't want you to hate christmas because she's not there...you don't have to buy into the big commercialized shiny deal that too many of us have let christmas become...there is no correct or incorrect way to celebrate christmas...you can totally opt out of the whole deal if you want...this is going to sound silly, but at various times i've really felt 'un-christmasy'...and what helped was watching 'a charlie brown christmas'...when linus recites the story of Christ's birth, it always makes me feel better...just remember, you don't have to jump into the 'holly jolly christmas' thing...but 'have yourself a merry little christmas'

Christmas got it's name from Christ going to mast. Thus Chistmas. Christ was not born in December. According to the Bible he was born around September.

I'm really sorry that you've had bad experiences at this time of year. You should really try to focus on the positive side of Christmas for your own happiness and not link it to these experiences. Probably sounds dumb, but I hope it helps a little.

OMG, you and I have the same issues.

I hate the holidays, I hate having to by gifts for people I've kinda stopped caring about (like my dad).

no only is it stressful but Its lost its whimsy and wonder,It no longer beautiful, its lost all religious significance ( even if it never really was christian, it was respected as such , but has lost its meaning).

I miss my mom, but she isn't passed, shes just far away now.
=(
