It's a shame that New York can't fire Stienbrenner.
What a tool?

Torre is not the problem the problem is Stienbrenner. What I mean by that is that the Yankees when they were winning championships they were building a team not a bunch of individuals. Stienbrenner feels that in order to win a team just needs the most starts that one can get, but if they can't mesh together whats the point.

Torre was very good at getting players to put the team in front of their egos and keeping things calm when things look there worst. That's what made him such a great manager, not the players around him. In my opinion the only mistake that Torrie made in the Tigers series was starting Wright instead of Wang in game 4 (you don't start a dud when your Ace is ready for an elimination game).

The problem with Stienbrenner is that he feels that he should grab every big name that is there, but while he has the money to spend they don't spend it wisely. Look at the White Sox last year and the Red Sox the year before that, sure they spent money but at least they spent it properly. The last couple of years they needed pitching so what do they do they get bats and the pitchers that they did get were not quality starters or relievers, so how can you win that way.

Torrie will most likely get fired but because of Stienbrenner's ego not for failing to win a World Series. As far as Piniella is concerend he will do well but I don't feel that he will have the same success as Torre did because I don't think that he will be able to deal with the egos on the team (the players and Stienbrenner's).

Stienbrenner is the problem. Not Joe. Stienbrenner thinks money can get him everything. Just because he has money he's under the false impression that the Yankees will always be the best. Too bad the pasth three years haven't taught him anything. I'm a HUGE Yankee fan, but I realize we have off days that can last awhile. I think it's actually kinda nice for Detroit though, although more nice if it was the Yankees. It's been forever and I can't imagine being how thrilled their fans are.

Torre is not the problem. The problem is that Steinbrenner just cannot keep buying wins. He has too many ego on that squad to co-exist in a solid environment. Each Yankee player has the mentality that he has to keep the team afloat. Torre has done a great job managing that tean, especially after this season when so many guys got injured.
Lou Pinella would make things alot worse for Steinbrenner then Torre could ever imagine.

To be honest with you, Joe Torre may be one of the best all time Yankee managers. It's not all his fault. Management didn't get him the pitching he needed to win in the post season. Good pitching beats good hitting almost every time. Hey I hope King George let's Joe go. Maybe then the dumb Red Sox management will smarten up, fire Francona and bring Joe in to help my beloved Sox win three or four world Series, before Joe retires!!!

Joe Torre is the best manager the Yankees have had in decades. Steinbrenner's an unadulterated idiot.

No. 11 playoff trips in eleven seasons, and 4 World Series titles - tough to argue with that!

A-Rod should be traded first - that guy is a choke artist in a clutch situation
