i believe it is in EVERYONE'S interests to pay them the same [after paying tertiary students the world av hrly pay of US$15/hr [2006] - if they pass exams, oc - calculating on students studying 50 hrs/wk, for simplicity]

my reasons 1] because they sacrifice the same amount of themselves [time, energy] - the doctor has more brains, but brains are a gift of nature - it is no cost to the doctor to use them

2] because human dignity requires it

3] because treating ppl [& thinking of self] as inferior or superior is bad for human character and social harmony - is putting cracks in society

4] because unequal hrly pay is unequal political power, and inequality grows endlessly, and destroys democracy, equality, peace and the state

5] because inequality [social contempt, selfawarded privilege] is resented and revenged ['cultural revolutions', fascist anti-intellectualism - 60% of nazi party: primary school teachers]

simpl means: just limitation of fortunes & spreading excess

You're logic seems to be on tilt,, the idea of a dishwasher reachign the fullest capacity and mastering that feat cant' compare slightly to a brain surgeon. 1) Statement is false, a surgeon exhaust mental dexterity and knowledge when performing complex operations as opposed to washing dishes, 2) human dignity expects and wants dignity based on whatever specialty/career someone has chosen, but DOES NOT require it, 3) biased response, people have to work in service industry, and it does not dictate a person's mental capacity or intellect, or level of accomplishment, or level of ability,, just merely what means they select in achieving an income.... 4)... lol.. why shouldn't doctors and lawyers be paid more,, they seek higher learning and pay for it themselves and ... it's a niche as many others don't have the knowledge of it,,

5),, this is where I think you're a complete dumass and only wanted to use some nonsensical equation to draw attention to some pathetic issue which doesn't exist over inequality and bring in politics, for some other agenda.. I'm only answering this so others read it..

You're right,, it's the white, republican GOP party keeping your dish washing **** down,, darn shame, as I'm sure you contribute alot and no one respects the fact that you can wash 12 pallets of scum in one hour, and it's unfair that you only get paid $5.00 an hour,, completely logical thinking and a great explanation, on your part.. ROLMFAO..
it's probably because Korea is testing Nucleur weapons, and Bush is in Power, and O.J is innocent and Anna Nicole is a victim and Paris Hilton is indeed smart, it's all a ploy against you,, Damn us all!

you are wrong.

1]as a dishwasher, you are easily replaced. if you quit, there will be 5 more kids after your job. its supply and demand. the supply of kids willing to work washing dishes is more than the damand for them. wages drop until the owner finds the person willing to do it for the least amount of money. a doctor is not easily replaced. it takes years to train a doctor. if one quits, it will take over 6 years and thousands of dollars to replace it. a dishwasher is unskilled labor. a doctor performs skilled labor.

2]as an unskilled laborer you shouldnt demand so much dignity. basic human dignity does not require a dish washer to be paid as much as a doctor.

3] if you think of yourself as inferior that is your problem. i am not a doctor or any other highly paid profession. yet i still consider myself equal to people who earn much more than i do. the thing that puts cracks in society is when unskilled laborers want to have just as much money as highly trained professionals even though they do not have the intellignce or motivation to go through the training and accept the same degre of responsibility.

4] it is not unequal political power. everyone has 1 vote. doctors cannot go out and buy extra votes.

5] cultural revolutions are lead by con artists. they find some fact about life that isnt so great and twist it around so that it turn into the governments fault. then mobs of angry stupid peasants have a rebellion.

Sorry, sweetheart, I'm not buying in to your way of thinking. Being a dishwasher is what we call a "transitional job". It's like being a boxboy, a McDonald's cashier, a paperboy, or any number of other low-end jobs. It's what you do to survive while you strive to find or train for something better. If you choose to make a career out of a transitional job, you are resigning yourself to mediocrity. Yes, these jobs have some level of importance, but to glorify them and pay for them the same as we pay for highly-trained doctors is an insult to doctors.

If we were to pay everyone the same - where would the incentive be for those who have to study/train for more "challenging" occupations? After all, if I can make the same money washing dishes - then why would I bother to train as a psychotherapist and accept the heightened workload, the accompanying stress, the increased hours????

So if you remove training and specialization from the pay equation (each has been compensated to the degree that paid in for their training), there is still going to be a differential. As the other answerer pointed out, while I can wash my own dishes if I need to, I can not remove my own appendix. How much need we have for people's services does affect how much we are willing to pay for them.

Equality in pay has been tried, and communism failed.

So, would you pay both per hours? How much money per hour can you make washing dishes? or per "patient", so now each dirty dish is a patient! Of course that your logic dont make sense, doctors not only study a lot, they are not working while other people are working, they sacrifice their personal life in the interest of their patients, and have lots of responsabilities...bottom line, doctors are enought paid and dishwashers too!!

With the profession of being a doctor or the likes of those fields it truly is extra of social prestige profession, quite then a financial reward factors in the geographical regions of a socialist gadget decrease than the aspirins of sociolismo.
