I recently responded kinda aggressively to a couple of guys. One feels all Australian women are horrible (he used another word) and the other feels that American men have the right to have a superiority complex and that includes the right to take advantage of women. I got a slap on the wrist because I called them idiots.
What are your thoughts and how can we gently educate men like this on the respect we have for ourselves.
By the way, I'm not a passionate feminist, I'm actually pretty traditional in a lot of things to do with marriage and stuff so it's not about women being better (just in case any guys sneak-a-peek at this). It's about respect.

I'm not sure you can educate them. If they are adults, they have already formed their opinions, it's almost impossible to "change" another person if they don't want to change. Better to just say it once, then walk away, end the conversation, otherwise, you are shouting your views and they are shouting theirs. No one is listening, and no one is being educated. Not all men are like this, as a matter of fact, very few are.

'Idiots' is putting it lightly. How depressing that centuries of fighting for equality can completely bypass certain individuals.

A lot of men take their privilege for granted; they'll never have to worry about unpaid maternity leave or the glass ceiling, and they'll condemn women for any decision regarding their sexuality. Some men, thankfully, aren't like this and understand that life isn't easy for anyone and there are some big problems we all should help clean up. Getting through to the more dense ones can just be a matter of finding a place where it matters for them--a daughter, significant other, or mother. The trouble comes when pride outweighs compassion. Maybe the best step is to emotionally and socially educate our sons and young men more effectively.

But by the way, why not be a passionate feminist? Feminism is just another way of searching for equality and, precisely as you name it, respect in this modern world, politically and socially. Your ideas here sound very feminist and compassionate.

a lot of men need to have control of women so that they dont feel so scared of the world. they have alot of little fears that they try to hide by projecting the all mighty superiority thing. if men werent so scared of the womens abilities to hurt them or break their little hearts, they might actually learn how to respect women. men today are nothing like they used to be. im not saying whether or not i am pro or con about the way they are now, but i can guarentee that men have had some fairytale idea of what a woman represents. they think that women have always had it real easy in life. some reasons for this are....looks (weve all heard some jackass say something to the extent of "if i was a woman id be a prostitute" or "all she does is sit on her fat ass all day and play with the kids" or in the case of career minded women or women in authority, "i wonder how many dicks she had to suck to get where she is". personally i think it would be damn hard for any man at this point to convince me that he is superior in any way. especially when they seem to be making their biggest efforts in the attempt to evolve into their PERCEPTION of what a woman is. all i know is that you wouldnt catch John Wayne being a stay at home dad, looking in the mirror and asking his female friends "girl, does my butt look big?" as far as GENTLY EDUCATING THEM, lol lol lol....maybe that is the problem, maybe our gentling of them has made them the way they are. i say give them the hard core education. they all think that "it cant happen to them" because they never seem to think they dont deserve anything that they want. different rules for them apparently. it also is a good indication that they have no respect for themselves, and dont even know what the real meaning of respect is.

i know you just want a women's opinion but i feel it is my duty as a man to respond to this as well. most of the Australian women i have met have been very kind and i can find no fault with them. as for they other guy that attitude comes from his upbringing. many men were taught that women are second to men and that gives them the right to take advantage of a women. you were right to call them idiots no person should be judged by what is between their legs and by the way i do not have a problem with a women who is willing to stand up for her rights. that just makes them a better women hows that for respect.

First of all Fuzz Chic, HAVE that respect for yourself, and never compromise on it. Some men will not be educated gently or otherwise...do you really want that burden? To be the educator? Because for a lot of men with that mindset, it has taken years for them to develop that way of thinking. So...be true to yourself...no matter what...and the rest will come. If you feel a compulsion to interract with men that seem to in some way offend your sensibilities, be firm with them, stand your ground, defend your ethics...and be prepared for the fallout.

sorry, people like me don't listen to the "women/men only"

The respect of women must be taught in homes and during religious events (sermons or mass). Respect must start early or it won't be in forced.

I grew up in a very liberal/ feminist household and it was tough growing up believing in women's rights. Men who choose to respect women often get called wimps and fags because we want everyone, women and men, to be respected. To stop this prejudice, parents must educate sons AND daughters about respect for the opposite sex.

Agree; the poster was a troll. Men can be gentle and kind and not all of them (thankfully) are like said poster. Maybe he's insecure about something. Hmm....

Sorry, that my friend is called a "Republican", a member of a political party found in America composed of those who promote rampant Capitalism and the suppression of minorities (yes, to them women are minorities). Find liberals lol.
