K&N sells a kit the comes with the cleaners and oil that you can find at Autozone or Advance Auto. K&N Cleaner works to dissolve the dirt build up and old filter oil, and can be washed away with water. Complete instructions on bottle.

K&N sells a cleaning kit that includes the oil to rewet the element after cleaning. If you are looking for the cheap answer, clean it with soap and water, gently, and gun it down with WD-40 after the water dries, but it's better to go with the cleaning kit.

it can be cleaned with soap and water, and then lightly coat it with a light oil such as wd-4o or 3 in 1 or a light 30wt. oil , the manfg should have a reccomended oil for use.
