I have been soooo sick for almost a year. My symptoms are hair loss, achy joints, extreme nauseousness, diarrea, and dizziness. It comes and goes, and for awhile I thought I was just lactose intolerant. Could my saline implants be leaking?

I'm sorry to hear about your longstanding health problems. I want to begin by saying that I am not an M.D. so can't diagnose your medical problems. However I am an RN who taught nursing for over 25 years and I also have experience with bilateral breast implants (both silicone and saline) following my diagnosis and surgery for bilateral breast cancer. First of all saline implants are covered with a coating of silicone and many people react negatively to silicone. I had a severe reaction to the silicone implants and had them changed to saline ones but still had problems physiologically as well as with the saline implants leaking. The jury is still out on whether the silicone causes the long list of symptoms attributed to it. If you are wondering if your implants are leaking ask your physician to order an ultrasound of the implants and this should give you a difinitive answer whether this is happening. Secondarily, some patients just say enough and have the implants removed to see if this helps. The implants (new ones) can be put in some time in the future if the patient so desires. As you can see there is no fast and easy answer to your concerns. Of course there are a number of other problems that could be going on in your body too. Have you had your thyroid levels tested as low thyroid may result in hair loss, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, etc. Achy joints can relate to many things . Some people with low thyroid complained of it but not all. Others with complaints of the silicone covered implants like myself had huge complaints of aching joints. Also patients with some of your complaints were low in magnesium and B vitamins. I hope that these suggestions are areas that you could discuss with your personal physician as only he/she can specifically assess you, prescribe tests , make a medical diagnosis, and suggest different kinds of treatment based on the results of their assessment and testing. Good luck to you. Just keep persevering until you find something that helps.

Well, depending on when you got the implants, it could very well be them. You really need to get a doctor and have some tests run along with some imaging of your breasts. a good x-ray or MRi will show whether or not the saline is leaking. However, since these symptoms have gone on for over a year, the possible leak in the implants is not a large one, but it is critical to seek medical attention as soon as you can.

This could very likely have absolutely nothing to do with your implants. Go see a doctor and have a complete work-up done, including bloodwork. These could be symptoms of a thyroid disorder, among a zillion other options.

Just for the record - even the silicone implants were not medically proven to cause all the problems that were originally claimed.

Since you don't say how long your implants have been in it may be possible that they could be leaking or there could be another medical problem it doesn't sound like lactose intolerant
