Why is a "W" called a "double 'U'" and not a "double 'V'"? That's what it looks like!!!!!

Very good question actually. I once read that it came from old anglo saxon and prononciation started to differ with time.

I could google it of course........:-)

Please note that in my language it is called "double V" and not "double U" !

Actually,in French, "w"s literal meaning is double v.

good job buddy you just gave me a head ache trying to think for an answer........i dunno why don't you get ppl to call it a double V and then they get ppl to and then eventually everyone will call it double V!!

I do notice on very old building U's are in V's....you know...like bvildings..Hvdson Sqvare..
