for an apartment in the city, would you pay more rent for a slightly smaller unit with lots of light and decent views or would you pay more for a larger interior unit with no view or direct sunlight? There is a lightwell, however, no direct sun shines into the unit. I'd really appreciate your honesty in what matters to you in chosing an apartment.

Both units have large windows that open. However, the larger unit only has an interior view and nonatural light. both units are comparable in the number of recessed lighting fixtures, have oak wood floor and beautiful kitchen cabinets and countertops.

thanks again for your answers :)

I would say the one with windows, light, view! Love the cascading light of the day and its effect on paint colors on a wall! Beautiful!

BUT it's the kitchen everyone wants! New or large current style kitchen items. A small place is a dream if it has a great dishwasher, counter tops that are current not dated and damaged (used). A fridge that's big and hes the ice and water dispenser! That alone can sell someone questioning the small size.

However, same goes for the big one, even if there aren't any windows that are great, modernize the place, inset ceiling lights close along a wall (for art, pics, shelving display), dinning room simple chic hanging light, and the updated kitchen.

Since I love light, I'd go for the smaller unit with lots of light. There are lots of space saving ideas to help you make the most of the space you have, but it is hard to add natural light to a dark or no view interior. I had a spacious apartment, but the brick floors and adobe walls made it too depressing for me! I moved out within 16 months for that very reason.

HI,

If the apartment was for me only, I would choose the smaller one with lots of light! I have a small home (800 square feet) and it has 17 windows! The light coming in brings peace, brightness to each new day! I'm serious.

I know someone who rented an apartment in midtown NYC that was tiny but had a great view from floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the East River from high up. The rooms were so small that a bed filled up just about the entire bedroom. The location and the scenery were so spectacular that we agreed it was worth paying super rent for it.

I would definitely choose the smaller unit with a view and natural light. I would become extremely claustrophobic and feel boxed in if I had no view, and minimal natural light would mean using more indoor light which in turn would increase the bills!

Lots of light. I've lived in apartments who poor lighting/windows/views, and it's like living in a dungeon.

We have a house here and the light hits the windows every sunset and drives us nuts. It makes it SO HOT and bright in here, we have to turn on the air and it's still hot. Just keep that in mind during the summer. I'm glad winter is almost here.

:)

I definately need lots of light. I need to be able to see some sky. The smaller space would be alright with me if I have natural light.

I would definately choose the smaller one if I could afford it. Housing the spirit is perhaps more improtant to me than housing the body.
