We'd be fighting the terrorists on american soil.
Or worse, we'd be bombed by them. I saw a credible report saying that large parts of Afghanistan are in the control of the Taliban. If we don't defeat them, they take over that country again. Right next door is Pakistan, another country that could become controlled by radical islamic fundamentalists.
The catch is, Pakistan has nuclear weapons...

Terrorists would see this as a weakness and it would embolden them to make more daring attacks on U.S. and British citizens.
