is there anyway to use an internal DVD drive for a desktop with a laptop?

Depends upon the model of Laptop. For example, IBM Thinkpads have drive bays where you can slide different types of drives in, including DVD-RW drives. You typically have to purchase the drive provided by the manufacturer, though. You can't just buy a generic one.

You can use Internal DVD Drive with laptops. All what you have to do is bring an external CD/DVD Case. In this way you will your DVD drive working from the USB or Firewire. It's gonna be something like this:

They have internal DVD burners for laptops. Just swap it out for the one in there now...
