just like when the silverware fall and with the old saying someone is coming as a visitor, a spoon for a woman and a fork for a guy. or perhaps when a mirror broke and it will relates to 7 years bad luck, unless you throw it with the water flowing like a river then it will not come true?

just curious if others believe that there is a truth to it..

My Mother was raised a Scot and is a christian but also has many beliefs from the old religion, as do many Gaels. We were brought up with supertstition and "signs."
The closest I come to this is the logic of the old sayings like:
A stitch in time saves nine.
Empty vessels make most noise.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Faint heart never won a fair lady.
Procrastination is the thief of time.
Don't sink the ship for a halfpennies worth of tar.
A penny saved is a penny earned.
Charity begins at home.
As for things like gloves left on a table suspending ones wedding for seven years and spilling salt to be bad luck, I think, are just social reminders to good ettiquette and thrift (although as a highly logical person, because of my upbringing, I still throw salt over my left shoulder, for good luck, if I have spilled some salt. LOL.

There is one that says "if you start the day by biting the head off a frog the rest of the day will be much better." I can believe that even though I don't know anyone who tested it.

Walk under a ladder and you can fall on your head and get hurt. It has happened. Ladders usually have workers on them with tools. Don't mess around with ladders walk around them. I have known too many to get hurt.
