The Best book - the best...
My mind immediately snaps to Robert Heinlein and his amazing vision of the future, or Kurt Vonnegut's dry humor or Terry Pratchett's hillarious Disc World Series. Then I think Piers Anthony and the Incarnation Series, John Irvings "A Prayer for Owen Meanie" or even Tom Robbins' "Jitterbug Perfume" - each of these life altering in a way.
I guess when I get through the whole list, I'd still come up with a couple of all time best and most important books I have encountered:
What are you doing in my universe?

This book made me really understand the idea of questioning down to a cellular level.
You Can heal your Life by Louise Hay

This book has taught me so many things - it's the only book I am sure to have a copy of in the house at all times. My personal bible you might say.
To Sail Beyond th Sunset by Robert Heinlein

Because of all the characters I long to meet.
Peace!
(Great question - thanks!)

Toss up between
Traitor by Matthew Stover (book 13 of the New Jedi Order series)
and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling
I'm also a fan of the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paoline and can't wait for the third book to come out.

Les Trois Marche (The Three March) by Antoinne Malroux. It a great story about realisation and bonding between a father and his son during the bitter times of war in France. It was my first French book and I love it alot...can't put it down for a minute.
