Nice question. It is a matter of pure commerce. Most of the programs shown on TV these days, comes hitched to the sponsor bandwagon. And a sponsor will put his money in programs that have high viewership (TRP) ratings. Now check how many people in your own family watch these teleserials. I guess there are many. Infidelity is something that is forbidden and shunned by society and clashes directly with middle class values. And many a middle class man or woman, leading a life sans sparkle or adventure, wants to taste the forbidden fruit indirectly by watching it on TV. Hence the high viwership of such serials. Of course the Balaji people are not stupid. They admittedly, want to convey the message that infidelity doesn't pay in the end. That's a fine blend of ethics and business. Hahahahaha!!!

TV Serials do it because they can guarantee viewers attention with such topics.

About the affect they have, as long as infidelity exists, and is not a figment of one's imagination, it is better to be straight about it and not keep it hidden. It is when people try to hide such issues that things get worse.

Sex is basic. It is an innate need. Marriage is a social thing. It makes a person dutifully bound to his or her partner, but cannot completely take off his or her tendency to get attracted to others.

TV serials are for entertaining the audience --- not, unfortunately, for educating the young minds with wholesome morals.
The minds of the Indian TV serial producers, like those of the genral masses, is pre-disposed to 'Infidelity' because "Forbidden sex" is exciting!!....and the viewership swells & the money coomes rolling in crores! That's Why!

A lot of hollywood movies also glorify infidelity and the fact that leaving a marriage is better than working things out. The saddest part is that, parents are not bringing up their children. The leave it to the school and the media. The standard of morality is going downhill. Sad isn't it?

I mostly agree. The relationship is cyclical. On one hand it reflects society's (generally BAD) values. On the other hand because is so ubquitous - to the point that some parents use it as a babysitter - that it fills our minds with certain images and ideas, thereby influencing our values.

This is why an old friend of mine wasn't allowed to have TV at ALL growing up. I'm not sure it helped his values though, since, as one poster said, we're influenced from many other sources. He was very smart though academically, so I guess it was great not having TV because he must've read a lot.

hi friend, all balaji serials as u say do show infidelity.this is because each balaji show runs for 4 to 5 years on the trot and they are daily shows.so they have to show infedility, extra marital affairs, plastic surgeries wherin they change the face of the characters, sometimes they show a character dying and then the same character returns after a few months.in balaji serials they also show the lead character getting married 3 to 4times.
i agree with u that they have a negative effect on the younger minds but we should not be influenced by them they are for entertainment purposes only.even ekta kapoor has agreed in all her intrerviews that she introduces these twists and turns only to grab audience attension

I guess the reason is that it is truly happening. There is so much pressure in relationships nowadays that people are straying.

Another reason could be that people are bored with watching the regular, happy families on tv. They want something different and probably the subject of infidelity is interesting to the viewers.

Because the channels are after cheap popularity and are not bothered about showing good virtues and value. Those who are arguing tht they are only showing what is happening around in reality should appreciate that there are other good virtuous things are also happening around. Why these are not being highlighted. Also, teh viewers are encouraging such serials, so thet are dished out such crap.

You don't have to watch TV to see that. Look around you it's every where. Your neighbors, your friends, and even your family. Why not show them what the world is really like instead of trying to hide it from them. Let them make up their own minds.
