Choosing a race or ethnic identity is not mandatory. If you don't prefer to choose one race or the other, then you don't have to. If they don't have a biracial, multiracial, or "other" category, then you don't have to choose anything. If you want to choose something, then pick whichever category you identify with the most. Just rememer, although this may suck, that people will still choose to identify you by how THEY think you look.

My daughter is also half Asian half Caucasian. She circles "other" ot "prefer not to answer" or on occasion if she thinks it's important because they're trying to do some good demographic work she circles Asian. When she has no option of "other", she refuses to select a box. As she says: "I am not my race, my race is just a small part of me."

But mostly it's "other". Unless they have an option for "mixed race". That's always her first choice, and if it's missing she tends to let whatever place it is know that they need to make that an option in this new world we live in.

Notice that you identified your heritage as Asian and half white. You combined and ethnic group with a color. I would say you are Asian and Caucasion. Anyway to answer your question when I fill out a form that lists colors instead of races, (i.e. black-white) I write my ethnic group in an available space. If my skin color was black then I would check black and so on. I think all forms should list the ethnic groups and include bi-racial and a space for heritage identification.

I am at a total loss. None of the forms I have used ever have my race, which is Kentucky Derby.

Some people say they are in the rat race but I have never seen that listed on the forms either.

People say I am stupid and call me a moron, but I can tell you one thing. The people who made up those forms are dumber than me.

I personally hate the whole race classification thing. Why the heck does it matter if I am Caucasian, Latino, African American or Asian if I want to get a warranty on my new toaster. My dad had a friend that boycotted the whole thing by circling a different race everytime he filled out a form.

Prefer not to answer. The only option that makes sense, since this question should not be on there to begin with, no matter who is doing the asking.

However you look more like make sense. You can't call yourself whitenasian or just ignore. And Other is more common.

Depends on what you look like and want and with whom you most identify. Isn't there a multiracial category?
