I think the responsibility of knowing when to stop is a good start however, we have some people who are well above the drinking age that doesn't know when to stop so ummm.... I guess just the majority level in general.

Actually it would be better if it were raised to 25. People are to immature to drink responsibly at any age below 40 and especially so under 25. To lower the drinking age from 21 to 18 would only increase the accidents and rapes that occur with drinking. It is odd, though, that a young man can serve the military at risk of life and limb, but cannot legally have a beer in some states. I'm just saying it seems odd because I am aware that linking the two issues is a non-sequitir and sets up an invalid logical argument.

Well where I live the legal drinking age in the whole country is 18, but honestly people always sell alcohol to you no matter your age, so basically we all start drinking at aproximately 14, which I know is kind of sad since its almost as if it were legal to drink at such a young age, and there are a lot drunks during spring break who die at the beach or in car accidents, but I guess my culture is a sex and alcohol driven culturem and honestly we aren't that bad. I'm 17 and I know not to go crazy and drink like a madwoman some people no matter how old 14 or 27 do not.

Parts of the brain for rationality are not fully formed untill the age of 24. If your are going to drink you need to be as rational as possible. It lowers inhabitions and you should have inhabitions and be very aware of your surroundings if you are going to drink. Because of drinking how many road fatalitys a year are caused by younger drinkers as well as older drinkers. With a higher drinking age there are likley to be older responaible adults around to help create a safe enviorment.Alcohol poisoning is also a real easy way to die if you are older and resonsible have a job you will be less likley to want to become so inebriated that you will not drink as much to be hung over at work plus the younger you start drinking the more likley to become an alcoholic as well as find yourself in all other sorts of trouble.Could go on and on but hey just know its for the younger persons own good the limits are where they are and maybe shoud be even higher.

The best reason to keep the drinking age at 21 is that Canada has some provinces with the drinking age at 18 and by no small coincidence a higher occurence of drunken arseholes.

Because the teens in America would drink themselves to death I'm afraid. Conversely if you were to drop the age all together, anyone born after the drop would theoretically do just as well as the teens in Europe because they would never have been told they could not have it. Thus not need to consume a lifetime of missed drinking opportunity into one night. People my age would not be able to handle the new found right and would "party til the break of dawn", or until they slipped into a coma. Causing most of them to die and the drinking age to be re-established.

1. 18 Year olds can defend this country. Are you going to raise the military age to 21?
2. Once you reach 18, you are considered an adult by our courts and any other legal reason - an adult should be able to drink.
3. You can buy cigarettes, why not alcohol?
That's enough or reason right there.......

when the legal drinking age is high, more youngsters would try to get their hands on those stuff even more. This same thing applies to smoking too. Think about if, if there's something you can do at a young age, there won't be so many teenage people dying to try them out secretly

this is only too overdue to alter the US physique of recommendations approximately alcohol. In lots of Europe, there is not any eating age. babies are shown from early on that eating is not any huge deal, they drink wine with nutrients, and particularly have an occasional beer. Europe has a decrease prevalence of alcoholism and alcohol appropriate injuries that the US. it is the physique of recommendations, in us of a of america eating is a huge deal. The attitudes of the two international locations has been generic for hundreds of years, it is going to not exchange, so circulate away the eating age the place this is or at maximum decrease it (decrease back) to 18.

All the bureaucratic red tape to be dealt with in changing it.

And Bill W: the reason why the Canadian provinces that have age limits of 18 have so many drunken arseholes in them is cause all the border town Americans that are 18 come here and can't handle our booze.
