Do i need the new Windows Vista? What does it do that Window XP can't do?

If you do upgrade you're probably paying more for stability and security than you are for increased productivity. I may be miserly on this one but when XP finally came out and the bugs were fixed, it's been one of the most stable operating systems. If you used 3.1,98,98SE,or ME you will understand the whole frustration with windows from the beginning. Man those operating systems sucked. They were a vacuum of productivity, pun intended.

I'm not sure of the Vista operating system's fancy new options, I just know that the press has been saying it more secure. It will most definitely support more RAM for those of you who are power photoshop users.

One other thing I must mention. When XP came out, I bought it the first day it was available. It was stable on my computer but on my friends it was a crashing nightmare. Bottom line is that bugs will have to be worked out and new releases are rarely non-buggy. Give them about a year to work out the fixes. How long did it take MS to come out with service pack 2 which plugged a cacophony of security holes?

I agree with the guy that says I see no reason not to be able to use XP(or 2000) for another 10 years. Stability is a wonderful thing.

No, you don't need it. I'm not even planning on upgrading to Vista, and sticking to Windows 2000. Windows Vista is going to be far too resource intensive to be worthwhile. I see no reason why anyone can't continue using Windows 2000 or XP for another 10 years or so.

Vista is still in Beta (being tested.) It's got problems for most people. No one knows what the final version will look like so why take a chance? Wait until it's been out long enough for Microsoft to publish the first service pack. Then, if you decide to upgrade, you should have a more stable platform.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/

This is the official Windows Vista website. This will tell you about the new features as well as the security improvements. Compare this to what you do with your computer right now and that will tell you whether you should upgrade or not.
