you can eat good quality sushi from a reputable restaurant. unfortunately not all sushi restaurants are up to the standards of a "real" sushi house, and if your fish wasn't prepared properly, you can get sick... much sicker than a person who's not pregnant. if in doubt, why not eat some sushi made with cooked fish... i practically lived on salmon katsu rolls while i was pregnant.
good luck!

First of all, the biggest danger to eating sushi or ANY fish for that matter, is the mercury within it. Eating some is alright, but excessive amounts (as with all things) probably isn't too good for you. Certain fish contarin more mercury than others. The fish with the highest levels or mercury are: shark, swordfish, tilefish, and king mackerel. "Advice from the FDA: Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or nursing — and young children — should not eat these fish. Everyone else can eat up to 7 ounces of high-mercury fish per week."

However, if you look at the site in the link I provided, you will note that sushi (as in the kind that contains raw fish) is not listed. The most common kinds of fish in sushi (as you might know) are tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, and clams.

Since the FDA doesn't advise against eating these fish, it should be okay. Just don't eat it too much.

As far as eating something raw, that doesn't matter so much. The fish restaurants use for sushi is different than the fish you just pick up at the store. (Unless they specifically say it's used for sashimi.) The fish for sushi should be fresher, and cleaner, because they know that it will be eaten raw rather than cooked.

P.S. My mom had sushi when she was having me, and I came out fine. Although, I believe her cravings for sushi have led me to love sushi. :)

I do. First kid was fine.

I crave it like crazy, just avoid anything that could potentially have mercury in it. Which most of the time the regular sushi is just fine when fresh and prepared properly.

I have to eat it once a week and I am 3 months along. Go for it! Look at other cultures and there are millions that eat raw fish, babies born fine all the time!

Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi refers to the rice. Eat vegetarian california rolls.

Sushi should be okay to eat, just be careful what kind of fish are in it. Swordfish, shark and a few others have very high mercury content and that can be dangerous.

Absolutely Not. Ask your doctor. Anything raw is a no-no. Even rare meat. Everything you eat should be well done. Shellfish also should not be eaten. There is a high risk of getting food poisoning when you eat raw meat or fish. This can be fatal for unborn babies or can effect your babies development and leave difformities.

You can eat it, but I think you can only eat so much per week because there can be a possibility that there is mercury in it.

But, when I was about 6 weeks, I really wanted tuna. So I ate some and it increased my morning sickness a lot. It sucked.

NO! you shouldn't any meat that is raw because of the bacteria, which will do no harm to you but will possibly affect the growth of the eyes etc at such an early developmental stage.

avoid anything such as soft cheese rare cooked meats etc everything should be cooked and well done.

I know that this is a nightmare, it was for me as I was craving cheesecake the whole way through my pregnancy!!

Be careful about the amount of fish you eat when you're pregnant and check the mercury content level first.

Ummm...I don't consider you to eat sushi because it has wasabi, a certain ingredient that expecting mothers shouldn't eat. It's a alcohol type of ingredient.
