Peta should only deal in solid facts as it is impossible to know the state of the cat. this would be beyond petas brief.
we also have to accept that one way or another that cat has to be dead at this stage

They could take a half position, or they could take a position until the box was opened. But they would probable take the position that animals should not be experimented on, or with, even probabilistically.
