I made the mistake of using it for a long period of time now I'm dependent on it to breath because my stuffiness is worse. What can I do to help with my stopped up nose instead of using the spray? And is it possible for my nose to be so messed up now that I need to see an ear nose and throat doctor?

Before you panic and see a doctor, try using Ocean Mist Nasal Spray for a few days. It is a saline spray which will hydrate your nasal passages which have dried out and swollen. You can use it as often as you need since it doesn't have medication in it. You can get an Equate brand at WalMart. Just look for saline spray.

First, medical advice you get for free from random strangers on the internet is probably worth every penny you paid for it.... But:

I had a similar experience. Nasal spray sounds like a good idea when you're stuffed up and it's hard to breathe, especially when it's stopping you from getting a good night's sleep. But then you get accustomed to it and can't feel normal without it. I just threw out the spray, went cold turkey, and slept really badly for 3 or 4 nights until my body reset itself. I found that sleeping with lots of pillows so I was sitting up part way helped--lying down seems to raise the pressure of the blood around your sinuses and make the air passages smaller. Yes, if you're still bad after a week or so of going without, I'd say go to the doctor, but try just quitting and just toughing it out first--I'd be that's what the doctor would have you try first anyway.

hi U-guy. i'm no longer attentive to any skill cardiac issues linked with oxymetazoline Hcl (comparable stuff as in Afrin). yet i'm afraid which you'll be plagued by a rebound result linked with persisted use of nasal decongestant sprays. The medical term (in case you desire to correctly known) is rhinitis medicamentosa. It truly potential which you have persistent nasal congestion from utilising nasal decongestants over a protracted quantity of time. yet another situation each so often linked with long term nasal decongestant use is annoyed nasal passages. So, what to do. besides the fact which you be certain to do, you would be mouth respiratory for a at an identical time as. So drink a good number of fluids and get some thing to maintain your lips from becoming dry and cracked. it could be least complicated in case you have been to work out an MD for the long term situation which you have had which led you to apply the spray long term and have a rebound result. A checklist will possibly prescribe for you some thing like Flonase, Nasacort. those are prescription steroidal nasal sprays. they're going to help with persisted use. each so often it takes as much as 3 weeks to get the total result from the steroidal nasal sprays. And, no, it truly is unlike taking steroids. The steroidal action is often constrained on your nasal passages and sinuses. in case you may no longer swing a Dr. pass to or the value of the meds, (each so often costly), your next maximum suitable option could be to apply an over the counter nasal decongestant contained in this variety of a pill (Sudafed)and doubtless a non-sedating antihistamine like loratadine (Claritin). and start to apply a saline nasal spray like Ocean spray to maintain those nasal passages from drying out. for that reason the wide-unfold meds would have the comparable result because of the fact the call kind meds and be plenty extra decrease priced. the significant concern to contemplate right it is to TAKE THE MEDS AS ORDERED. do no longer exceed the cautioned on a standard basis dosages. you try to wean your self off of normal use of OTC nasal sprays. And in case you're at it, it truly is beneficial to proportion this records along with your Dad.

I had that happen to me too, and it got so bad that my sinuses started bleeding, so I stopped and began "snorting" salt water. It's a bit uncomfortable and do not use very much salt or it will burn. If you do it like 3-4 times daily, it helps a lot.

its a common unfortunate addidction you can do the same thing with chapstick. It will hurt for several days but you have got to quit using it, while your quitting try a vicks vapo rub inhaler but they are addidctive also, so if you can quit all together your sinuses will adjust in a few days. my boyfriend went through something similar with chapstick.

Nasel spray made my daughter sick, so I have not given her anymore of those. She takes allergy and cold medicine to take care of her nose, I do as well.
