How to redo my cabinets destressed?

I have cabinets now so would I have to sand them first?

no, not to paint them, just wash them with dawn soap, prime with two coats of Kilz, and paint color of your choice. If you are going to re-stain /clear finish them, it is more difficult. Try this before sanding. Wash them with dawn. Use a rag to add stain to scarred and nicked areas. Cover with finish. If you don't like the results, you will have to sand. BUT, but if you do like it, you win.
