Does anyone remember how to make sure that a save file will last even after you've turned the system off? I'm referring to games like The Legend of Zelda. I thought it was hold reset, then turn the power off then let go, but it's not working.

not many games COULD save, many used passwords to save, like faxanadu

HOWEVER

zelda could save, but to do it, you just needed to die or beat a dungeon to get to the save screen

final fantasy could save, but you needed to stay at an inn to do it.

dragon warrior games could save, but you needed to talk to a priest to be given that option

holding in reset while you turned off the power was a myth. but you got it wrong.

it was a widely concepted misbelief that if you hold in reset while you turn off the power, your game is less likely to lose data. the reality of this matter was actually that the battery started dying when the saves were not being... saved.

the other guy is right. the NES games use a battery to save their games.
if you are really careful, you can pry open the case and replace the battery
good luck

Those games used batteries to save the info. I would imagine after this long the batteries would be dead.
