I'm not a registered farrier so I wouldn't presume to ever try to trim my horses feet. I prefer to employ a professional to ensure they have correctly balanced feet, it being so important to their welfare. The frog tends to shed naturally, though the farrier may trim off any rough edges to decrease the chance of thrush in the feet. There are many 'fashions' regarding how horses feet should be trimmed, though I know enough to recognise a good foot and the correct balance with regard to the horses individual action. I look after my farrier because a good one is hard to find. I suggest you find one too. It's illegal, in the UK at least, to dress your own horses feet without qualifications...

Heck no! The frog is the most sensitive part, and the horse can die if you accidentally cut it. You better get a professional to do it for you, because it's really hard to do right and you can seriously hurt the horse (or the horse can seriously hurt you). Hope this helps!
